I usually keep an open mind when it comes to art, especially photography. I enjoy taking both color and black and white photos an if someone asked me who my favorite photographer was I would have difficulty making up my mind. Often I'm drawn to the subject rather than the artist. I have many photos hanging in my home. Most of which have have taken.
However I do own one original work taken by Rodney Lough Jr. My wife an purchased the work while on a trip to San Francisco an few years ago. Being typical tourists we visited his gallery and we were intrigued by his process and his approach to photography. Most of his photos were landscapes or nature related. Also most of his photos were color photographs.
It is obvious that his work is influenced by Ansel Adams. Rodney typical scouts several locations each year. Once he has chosen a location he typically hikes into the wilderness and camps out for several months waiting for the perfect conditions and the perfect light. Like Adams he used a large format camera, However his is digital.
Most of his photos are taken using long exposures. This helps him capture very rich saturated colors.
Like him I enjoy experimenting with light. You never quite know what the camera will capture. If you would like to take a look at more of his photos check out his website; www.RodneyLoughJr.com. A This is the one that is hanging in my home.
